Commission, transport, inspection, payments and customs: the real questions about buying and selling used industrial machinery.
MAKINTER is a broker: it stands between the company selling an industrial asset and the buyer. It does not buy the machinery, does not store it and does not transport it. It is not a manufacturer, a freight forwarder, a customs agent, a certification body or a surveyor either. It prepares the asset commercially, presents it to qualified buyers, coordinates inspections and stays with the negotiation until it closes.
There is no upfront cost. We do not charge to list the asset, to prepare the technical listing or to present it to buyers. MAKINTER charges a commission on the final price only when the sale closes: 12% under an open mandate and 10% under a 12-month exclusive mandate. If the asset does not sell, you owe nothing.
Under an open mandate you can keep trying to sell the equipment yourself or through other intermediaries, and the commission is 12%. Under an exclusive mandate MAKINTER is the only channel for 12 months and the commission drops to 10%. In both cases the buyers you were already negotiating with before signing are listed in writing and excluded.
For an initial market opinion, brand, model, year, approximate location and a few photos are enough. To take the asset to market we need more: serial number, hours or cycles, accessories included, maintenance history, dimensions and weight, access conditions for removal and any known defects. The more complete the file, the faster it sells and the less it gets haggled down.
It depends on the type of asset and, above all, on the price. A machine with a ready market, priced right, can move in weeks; a specialised one, or one priced above market, can take months. If an asset generates no conversations in 30-45 days, the sensible thing is to review the price: the market has already answered.
No. Every machine is assessed before being accepted: whether identifiable buyers exist, whether the price expectation is defensible, whether ownership and documentation are clear and whether the logistics are workable. We exclude goods without proof of ownership or with unclear liens, waste and dangerous goods, military material, and any asset subject to sanctions or export controls that cannot be cleared.
Yes, and we recommend it. MAKINTER arranges the visit with the owner and can put you in touch with independent technicians. The inspection is arranged and paid for by the buyer, and the report is theirs. MAKINTER does not act as a surveyor and does not certify the condition of the machine.
This is a business-to-business sale of second-hand goods: unless the parties expressly agree otherwise, there is no manufacturer warranty. That is why prior verification matters so much. The technical information in each listing comes from the owner and from the available documentation, and the buyer must check condition, suitability and regulatory compliance at destination before committing to the purchase.
It depends on the asset, its year and its history. Being second-hand does not remove questions of safety, marking or modifications. MAKINTER gathers and passes on whatever documentation exists, but does not claim that a machine complies and does not issue declarations of conformity. If marking is critical for your case, it must be verified before buying.
The published inventory is only part of the picture. Many assets come to market before they reach the website. Tell us what you need and we will look for it across our international network of sellers and email you when something matching appears.
The buyer pays the seller directly, or through an independent professional escrow service. The purchase money never passes through MAKINTER's account; MAKINTER invoices its commission only. It is safer for both parties and avoids confusion about who is liable for what.
Do not pay. The most common fraud in this industry is exactly that: someone gets into an email conversation and sends new bank details. Any change of account must be verified by calling a phone number you already knew beforehand, never by replying to the same email thread.
Specialised companies contracted by the seller or the buyer, as agreed between them. MAKINTER gathers the necessary data (weight, dimensions, access, lifting points) and helps request quotes from carriers and freight forwarders, but does not provide the service and does not take custody of the goods.
It varies a great deal: a compressor that fits on a standard truck is not the same as a full line that needs dismantling, a crane and special transport. That is why a transport quote should be obtained before closing on price, with real weight and dimensions. A badly estimated transport can wipe out the margin on a deal.
Yes. Export and import are handled by the seller and the buyer with their own freight forwarders and customs representatives; MAKINTER does not act as exporter or importer. Before closing it is worth validating the tariff classification, the requirements of the destination country and, for sensitive equipment, export controls and end use.
