Caterpillar C15 diesel generator with low hours of use, documented maintenance. Suitable as industrial backup or continuous use depending on configuration.
The C15 is one of Caterpillar's most widespread inline six-cylinder diesel engines, used in power generation as well as in heavy machinery and transport. In a generating set there are two ratings that are not interchangeable: standby and prime (continuous duty). The same engine delivers fewer kVA on prime than on standby, and buying one rating while planning for the other is the most common mistake in this category.
Its real advantage second-hand is the network: Caterpillar service and parts coverage is close to worldwide, Central and Latin America included. When inspecting one, hours under load, the maintenance record and the condition of the alternator and control panel matter far more than the year of manufacture.
